Dear All

Speed up Sundridge Broadband

You will have wondered what happened to the campaign to speed up the appallingly slow broadband speeds in Sundridge.

Briefly:
  1. It was expected that grants would be available Kent County Council in November and December. Unfortunately at a very late stage these became unavailable.
  2. We were advised that Sundridge, even combining with Brasted and Toys Hill , was too small to successfully apply for alternative grants from DEFRA. Other partnerships were ruled not viable.
  3. Other options - essentially private funding in collaboration with a Community Interest Company, Next Genus - are being explored but are proving protracted.
I have this evening received the email below which suggests there might still be an opportunity to submit a DEFRA bid for Sundridge/Toys Hill/Brasted area but would very much depend on how much demand can be registered over the next week or so. The Sundridge campaign has been working closely with Joe Middleton who is Economic Development Officer at Sevenoaks District Council

Can I therefore urge everyone to register/vote online for better broadband at: www.kent.gov.uk/broadband. This link should be "cliackable". An alternative is to print out and manually complete the attached forms. Business Survey.pdf and Residential Survey.pdf

This is very urgent so can I urge you to  register/vote  asap and to circulate/forward this email to friends and family, neighbours and business partners and fellow workers and encourage them to go online as well. . Numbers and timing could be crucial.

Please let me know if you have any problems voting/registering or have any suggestions and information helping advance broadband speeds in Sundridge.

Hi all,

It would be good to meet up with Next Genus at some point to discuss broadband issues, it is a shame they could not come down previously. Just a quick reminder that if you could encourage all of your communities to 'Vote for Better Broadband' (www.kent.gov.uk/broadband ) on the Kent County Council website that is the best way we can ascertain demand and means we don't have to design and distribute separate broadband surveys. I have attached paper copies of the surveys if any individuals have such poor speeds that they can't access it online.

There still might be scope to submit a DEFRA bid for Sundridge/Toys Hill/Brasted area but would very much depend on how much demand can be registered over the next week or so in time to submit the EOI on the 31st January.

Kind Regards,
